The Rinki trademark communicates corporate responsibility

Picture before content

The Finnish Rinki trademark was introduced at the beginning of 2018. Companies that bear producer responsibility for packaging can use the trademark in their marketing communications. When you see the Rinki trademark on a company’s website or brochure, you know that it is a responsible business that bears its producer responsibility for packaging.

All Finnish Packaging Recycling RINKI Ltd corporate customers have the right to use the Rinki trademark. The Rinki trademark has been well received: as early as January, several companies notified Rinki that they have started using the trademark.

“Companies can use the Rinki trademark in their marketing communications. They can display it on their website as well as on printed and electronic advertising and marketing materials. It cannot be used on products or packaging,” says Maija Peltola, Rinki’s Customer Service Manager.

There are two versions of the trademark: the simple Rinki trademark and the “RINKI mukana pakkauskierrätyksessä” trademark, the elements of which are always used together.

Thousands of member companies

Companies that have a contract administered by Rinki concerning the transfer of producer responsibility for packaging to producer organisations are its customers. The contract has been signed by about 4,500 companies. A list of these companies is published on Rinki’s website at www.rinkiin.fi.

Producer responsibility is a legal obligation to businesses; it applies to companies that package products in Finland or import packaged products for the Finnish market and have a turnover of at least one million euros. The purpose of the legislation is, amongst other things, to save natural resources and prevent harm to the environment.

Rinki and producer organisations arrange the collection and recycling of packaging waste on behalf of the member companies so that legal requirements are met. Households can bring their discarded packaging to the Rinki eco take-back points free of charge. There are now more than 1,850 Rinki eco take-back points for carton and glass packaging and metal as well as more than 500 points for plastic packaging.
