Producer responsibility
The Finnish SUP Producer Group Ltd handles producer responsibility obligations for specified SUP products on behalf of companies.
The SUP Producer Group is responsible for the following single-use plastic products:
- tobacco products with filters and filters used with tobacco products
- balloons used by consumers
- wipes for personal care and consumer use
and
- fishing gear that contains plastic
Producer responsibility applies to companies that place the aforementioned products on the market. Companies with producer responsibility can be Finnish manufacturers, importers or online sellers located in other Member States. The producer responsibility obligation is easy to manage by joining the Finnish SUP Producer Group.

The Single-Use Plastics (SUP) Directive
The Single‑Use Plastics Directive (EU) 2019/904 aims to reduce the volumes of certain plastic products that are discarded and their impact on the environment.
The original purpose of the SUP Directive was to address the global problem of plastic litter in the seas by targeting certain plastic products commonly found on seashores, but it has expanded to cover single-use products in general.
