On this page you will find frequently asked questions about the EPR scheme for packaging in Åland.

Is my company producer responsible for its packaging in Åland?

Your company is producer responsibility in Åland if it professionally:
– packs products in Åland for the Åland market
– Imports packed products to Åland (imported products include products imported from the Mainland Finland)
– manufactures or importers of empty drinking cups and their caps and lids containing plastic that are sold empty to the end-user in Åland
– manufactures in Åland or importers to Åland of service- and grower packaging
– sells packed products from a region outside of Åland to users in Åland via distance sales

What kind of packaging should my company report?

All packaging, whether group packaging or consumer packaging etc., is covered by producer responsibility. The company is responsible for the activities covered by producer responsibility under its own company ID.

For reporting purposes, packaging is categorised as single-use and reusable packaging.
More detailed reporting instructions for the Åland producer responsibility scheme will be published later in 2025.

My company has already joined the producer responsibility scheme in Mainland Finland, does my company need to join the Åland scheme separately?

The Åland producer responsibility scheme is separate from the mainland Finland producer responsibility scheme. If your company is liable for producer responsibility in Åland, it must also join the Åland system.

Joining Finnish Packaging Producers’ EPR scheme is done through a separate Åland agreement.
